What happened to our Church?" October 9th at 7:00pm

Have you ever wondered what exactly Vatican II was all about? Why have we seen so many changes in the Catholic Church over the last 40 years and how have these changes impacted us?

The Church today continues to struggle with many aspects which have evolved from the Vatican II event. If you would like to hear more, Fr. John Dietzen, a syndicated columnist for many U.S. Catholic newspapers and a senior priest of the Peoria Diocese, will be giving a presentation which will address some of our questions.

Fr. Dietzen will be presenting at Blessed Sacrament Church in Morton on Thursday, October 9th at 7:00 pm.  Everyone is invited to come and enjoy what should prove to be a very interesting evening.

Parish Mission: Sunday, November 16th thru Tuesday, November 18th

Take time this fall for a special parish event---our parish mission. This is a three day event featuring evening sessions led by two nationally experienced energetic Mission directors: Father Jim Marchionda and Sister Ann Willits. After each evening session, we will enjoy fellowship in the parish center. Free babysitting is provided. Praying, singing, listening, reflecting and sharing as a faith community can be a special experience for our parish. Clear your schedule now for this spiritual opportunity. If you have never been to a parish Mission, make this your first one.

Right Here on October 18, 10:00am—Noon

John Carr, coordinator of the Catholic Bishops' policy development and advocacy efforts on a wide range of national and global issues, will speak at Blessed Sacrament on Saturday, October 18th as part of the diocesan Institute for Catholic Social Ministry. He will speak on Faithful Citizenship: Mission, Message, Directions and Dangers. The Institute runs from 10:00am—3:15 pm.

A copy of the registration form is available in the back of Church, or you can pick up a registration form in the Religious Education office.

Praise & Prayer

The Catholic Diocese of Peoria is in need of prayer for her priests and the faithful.  Please consider joining us any Thursday evening at 7:00 P.M. in the parish center as we lift our hearts in prayer to the Father on behalf of the shepherds of His people and their flocks.  "For where two or three are gathered, there am I in their midst......"

Preparing to Vote

Our nation faces political challenges that demand urgent moral choices. “…responsible citizenship is a virtue and participation in political life is a moral obligation.” Inform your voting by attending the presentation “Faithful Citizenship” by Ms. Joan Rosenhauer of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops on Tuesday, October 7th at 7:00 pm at St. Thomas Church, Peoria. For additional information, call the diocesan Office of Family Life, 309-671-1550.

Blue Cards

If you have lost your blue card from last week’s bulletin, you can pick one up from the credenza at Church. Thank you for your help in getting these cards into the hands of those who might be interested in preparing to be confirmed as well as those who might want to join the Catholic Church.
